APC won t escape defeat in 2027 even if Tinubu appoints son INEC chairman Ex minister

Former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung, has voiced strong confidence that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will be unseated in the 2027 general elections, regardless of who occupies key electoral or judicial positions under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Dalung made the assertion during an interview with News Central in Jos, Plateau State.

Responding to speculation over strategic appointments by the APC-led government, he remarked: “Even if Tinubu appoints his son as INEC chairman and wife as CJN, APC will be defeated in 2027.”

He attributed his belief to what he described as the deteriorating political and economic climate under the current administration.

“I promise President Bola Ahmed Tinubu even if 36 States governors defect to APC and he appoints Seyi Tinubu as the chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission, and he appoints his wife the Chief Justice of Nigeria and INEC will be last institution to decamp to APC, they are going to be defeated in 2027, because it is we versus them,” Dalung said.

According to the former minister, the government has launched what he sees as a campaign against the Nigerian populace, citing widespread hardship and systemic injustice.

“Nigerians should buckle up for 2027 because the battle line has been drawn by the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu which has declared war against the Nigerian people. The government has weaponise the poverty, hunger, hardship and popularise corruption impunity and injustice. The only option we have now is to align with the coalition movement to reposition ourselves and confront the government in 2027,” he stated.

Dalung, who left the APC for the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has continued to criticise the party he once served, calling it a “conclave of sinners” that offers sanctuary to politicians seeking to evade accountability.

He also warned that the growing number of defections into the ruling party might ultimately lead to internal collapse, due to a lack of shared ideology.

He said his decision to leave the APC followed what he described as a disappointing meeting with President Tinubu, during which he felt the president struggled to engage with their discussion meaningfully.

Dalung has consistently described the current governance structure as a “kakistocracy”—a system led by the least qualified—accusing it of serving the elite at the expense of the general population.
