Senator’s aide resigns over N20,000 salary

An aide to Senator Olajide Ipinsagba of Ondo North Senatorial District, Oluwatunbosun Awe, has stepped down from his position, citing dissatisfaction with a monthly salary of N20,000, which he described as no longer viable in Nigeria’s current economic climate.
Awe, who served as the ward liaison officer for Isowopo Ward 2 in Akoko North East Local Government, made his resignation public through a letter released on Wednesday.
“This is in response to the N20,000 monthly salary paid to me, which is out of touch with present economic realities and a far cry from the new national minimum wage,” Awe stated in the letter.
He also disclosed that despite raising the issue multiple times with Senator Ipinsagba and requesting a salary adjustment, no changes were made. According to him, his earnings remained unchanged even from the time he worked under the Senator during his tenure as Special Assistant on Industrialisation under former Governor Olusegun Agagu.
Efforts to get a response from Senator Ipinsagba were unsuccessful, as his media aide, Yinka Ajagunna, declined to comment on the matter.
Meanwhile, one of the Senator’s loyalists, Bankole Akerele, expressed disappointment over Awe’s decision and questioned his motives.
“Awe should have shown appreciation instead of causing embarrassment. His resignation is more about divided loyalty than salary,” Akerele said.
