Security forces nab 2 armed suspects during operation in Benue

Troops under Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have taken two armed suspects into custody following a strategic patrol mission conducted on Wednesday in Benue State.

The suspects were intercepted along key entry routes into Makurdi, the state’s capital, during a security sweep designed to combat rising criminal activity in the region.
Identified as 42-year-old farmer Mr. F. Agbako from Gwer East Local Government Area, and Mr. Tsee Kyaan, also 42, a driver from Makurdi LGA, the two men were detained as part of efforts to dismantle unlawful checkpoints and restrict the movement of armed individuals within the troops’ operational jurisdiction.

A stop-and-search exercise led to the discovery of an AK-47 rifle and a loaded magazine containing 7.62mm special ammunition, concealed inside a blue Toyota Camry with registration number Lagos FST 733 GL.

The mission was carried out under the leadership of Captain Miri-Dashe from the 401 Special Forces Brigade, with support from Captain Iyamba. The coordinated operation included personnel from the Department of State Services (DSS), Keystone operatives, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

Authorities have confirmed that the suspects, along with the recovered weapon and ammunition, remain in custody as investigations continue, with legal proceedings to follow as directed by relevant security agencies.

Responding to the development, Force Commander of OPWS, Major General Moses Kolo Gara, praised the team’s efficiency and discipline during the operation.

He said, “The operation’s unwavering commitment to flushing out criminal elements and securing communities across Benue and beyond” remains a top priority.

Major General Gara also acknowledged the contributions of top military leadership, saying he was grateful “to the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, for their continued support and provision of vital resources enabling OPWS to fulfill its mandate.”
