Nasarawa court restrains APC acting chairman from parading as party leader

A Senior District Court sitting in Lafia, Nasarawa State, has issued an order preventing Mr. Aliyu Bello, the embattled Acting Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, from identifying himself as a member or leader of the party.

The decision came on Thursday following a legal motion brought before the court by Suleiman Turaki, counsel to Ibrahim Iliyasu, who serves as the APC Chairman for Gayam Electoral Ward in Lafia Local Government Area.

Iliyasu and 13 other ward executives had suspended Bello from the APC on July 1, citing alleged anti-party conduct.

Presiding judge Abdullahi Lanze granted the order after reviewing the application submitted by the applicant’s legal representative.

The court specifically barred Bello—along with his associates, aides, supporters, or anyone acting under his instruction or influence—from presenting himself as either a member or chairman of the party.

Additionally, the judge prohibited Bello from issuing public statements, performing party-related duties, or engaging with the media in any capacity as an APC official.

The ruling is to remain in force pending the outcome of the substantive motion currently before the court.
