Tragedy as truck crushes police inspector to death at checkpoint

A tragic accident has claimed the life of a police inspector, Afolabi Adeola, who was reportedly killed by a speeding truck at a checkpoint along the Abeokuta–Sagamu Motorway in Ogun State.
According to eyewitnesses and local sources, the fatal incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. on Sunday near the Judiciary Complex checkpoint in Abeokuta. The truck, which was said to be heavily loaded with 900 bags of cement, was allegedly approaching the checkpoint at high speed when it lost control and struck the officer.
Inspector Adeola was said to have been on duty at the time, managing traffic and ensuring checkpoint compliance, when the truck veered into his path. Despite efforts to rush him for medical assistance, he was confirmed dead at the scene.
Before ramming into the officer, the truck was said to have also rammed into another truck that had stopped at the checkpoint in compliance with police traffic control.
The impact from the crash was said to have fatally injured Inspector Adeola, who was on official duty at the checkpoint.
He was rushed to a hospital in Lagos, where he died on Monday shortly after undergoing an X-ray.
According to a report by a security analyst, Zagazola Makama, on his X (Twitter), officers from the traffic unit visited the scene, documented the crash, and recovered both vehicles to the station for further investigation.
The suspects involved are expected to be arraigned in court on Wednesday, July 3.
When contacted, the Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, told PUNCH Metro to wait for a press release.
“Please wait for the official press release,” she said.
As of the time this report was filed, Odutola had yet to share any statement on the incident as promised.
