Bello Turji reportedly seeking peace talks after death of Kachalla Yellow

In a significant development that could shift the tide in Nigeria’s long-standing battle against terrorism in the North West, notorious bandit leader Bello Turji is reportedly reaching out for peace talks following the death of his cousin and top field commander, Kachalla Yellow Danbokolo.
Multiple credible sources have revealed that Turji, long considered one of the most dangerous terror figures in the region, is initiating contact with other armed groups to explore the possibility of surrender and dialogue with the governments of Zamfara, Sokoto, and Katsina States.
This unexpected move comes in the wake of the recent elimination of Danbokolo by security forces. Known as the tactical brain behind Turji’s operations, Danbokolo was instrumental in planning and carrying out violent raids, ambushes, and mass abductions across the North West.
According to insiders, Danbokolo’s death has dealt a major blow to Turji’s network, potentially prompting the embattled warlord to reconsider his position and seek a negotiated exit from the battlefield.
“Turji was mostly the public face. It was Danbokolo who led the fighting forces, ran the logistics, and enforced their authority in the forest corridors. This is the first time he has been truly exposed. Without Danbokolo, his operational muscle is crippled,” said a source familiar with the group’s structure.
Danbokolo was fatally wounded during a June 23 operation by the Department of State Services (DSS) and the HYBRID Forces in Chida village, Fakai District of Shinkafi LGA. He died three days later on June 26, after being moved across several villages in a failed attempt by his fighters to save his life.
Sources believe Turji’s current overture may not be out of genuine repentance but a tactical response to mounting pressure and operational losses.
Security agencies are yet to officially comment on Turji’s reported peace gestures, though analysts advise caution, warning that any engagement should be how to neutralize him.
“Turji must not be forgiven. The government must reject his plea to surrender,”said the source.
