US-born children of undocumented immigrants should be deported with parents – Republican senator

Republican Senator Markwayne Mullin said over the weekend that he supports deporting children born in the United States if their parents are living in the country without legal status.
Speaking on NBC’s Meet the Press on Sunday, Mullin weighed in following a U.S. Supreme Court decision on Friday that could soon allow an executive order from former President Donald Trump, aimed at limiting birthright citizenship, to take effect in certain states.
The high court’s decision did not specifically rule on the constitutionality of Trump’s directive, which challenges the long-standing interpretation of the 14th Amendment that grants citizenship to anyone born on U.S. soil, regardless of their parents’ immigration status.
NBC host Kristen Welker pressed the Oklahoma senator on what should happen to U.S.-born children whose undocumented parents are deported, noting that under current law, those children are citizens.
“Well, they should go where their parents are,” Mullin responded. “Why wouldn’t you send a child with their parents? I mean, why would you want to separate them?”
Friday’s ruling has led to widespread uncertainty among immigrant communities and advocacy groups, with many trying to understand the implications of a patchwork application of birthright citizenship across different states.
