4 killed as bomb explosion rocks Yobe

Four people have lost their lives and at least 21 others sustained injuries after two suspected improvised explosive devices (IEDs) detonated in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State on Friday.

The twin blasts, believed to have been orchestrated by suspected members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), occurred hours apart along the Goniri–Buni Yadi Road.

In the first incident, a commercial pickup truck carrying traders to the weekly market in Buni Yadi hit an IED planted near Bultaram village. Several passengers were seriously injured in the explosion. Three of them were confirmed dead after being rushed to the Yobe State Specialist Hospital in Damaturu, while 21 others are receiving treatment for varying injuries.

A second explosion followed shortly after in the same area when a motorcyclist unknowingly rode over another hidden device. He was taken to Buni Yadi General Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Security forces, including the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit and members of local vigilante groups, were promptly dispatched to the scene to begin clearance operations and prevent further incidents.
