Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has ordered the immediate shutdown of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai (IBBUL), in response to recent security breaches and tragic loss of lives within the university community.

The decision was announced following rising concerns over the safety of students, staff, and surrounding residents. Governor Bago, who expressed deep sympathy for those affected, emphasized that the welfare and protection of all members of the university remain a top priority for his administration.

Announcing the closure in an official statement on Tuesday, Abubakar Usman, the Secretary to the State Government, said the government is taking urgent measures to restore order and ensure lasting peace.

“The government is deeply saddened by the recent incidents. We urge the university community to stay calm, remain vigilant, and cooperate with security agencies during this period,” Usman stated.

He further assured the public that thorough investigations are ongoing and that those responsible for the violence will be brought to justice.

The state government reaffirmed its commitment to upholding law and order, and to protecting the lives and property of all citizens in Niger State.
