Gunmen abduct community leader in Kwara demand ransom

Fear and tension have gripped residents of Okoro-Okegbo community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State following the abduction of a prominent community leader, Femi Odeyemi.

According to sources, Odeyemi was kidnapped at about midnight on Sunday, June 23, 2025, when gunmen stormed his residence. The attackers reportedly whisked him away to an unknown location, leaving family and residents in distress.

In a chilling turn of events, the kidnappers have placed a ₦100 million ransom on Odeyemi’s release.

Leaders of the community have reported the matter to the Kwara State Police Command Headquarters and the Divisional Police Station at Babanla. But no further development has been reported.

Recall that some weeks ago, unknown gunmen stormed Okoro-Oke, the neighbouring community of Okoro-Okegbo, where two police officers were killed, while a Chinese national and a Nigerian miner were abducted by gunmen. Nothing has been heard about the incident since then.

Efforts to reach the spokesperson of the Kwara Police Command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, on Tuesday were unsuccessful.
