Plateau , Benue killings : Group flays growing presence of terrorists in North Central, seeks military action

A civic group, the North-Central Peace Advocates, has voiced concern over the growing presence of terrorists and criminal elements in the region, urging security forces to identify and arrest those behind the ongoing violence in Benue and Plateau States.

The call was made during a Peace and Development rally held on Saturday in Mararaba, Nasarawa State.

Addressing participants, the President of the group, Adamu Loko, stressed the urgent need to restore peace in the region as a foundation for development and stability.

He denounced the recent spate of killings in the two states, describing them as acts carried out by “agents of destabilization.”

Loko also highlighted the damaging impact of insecurity on agriculture, which he said remains the backbone of the region’s economy and a primary source of livelihood for its people.

He praised the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Chris Musa, for his candid remarks on the security crisis and called for greater public support for the Armed Forces.

According to Loko, the rally was aimed at sensitizing communities on the importance of peaceful coexistence and encouraging collective support for security efforts.

“We are here to preach peace. We urge our troops to go all out and ensure perpetrators of the killings are nabbed and brought to book. When perpetrators are arrested and dealt with, it will bring peace,” he said.

He further stated that the group intends to embark on a regional campaign to spread messages of peace and unity.

In his remarks, Saleh Mohammed, who represented the local transport union, expressed appreciation to the group for its peacebuilding initiative and offered prayers for stability across Nigeria.

He also lauded the Armed Forces for their continued sacrifices and unwavering commitment to national security.
