Area Council Election: Suleiman Barde dumps APC, joins chairmanship race under Labour Party

A youth and community leader in Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, Hon. Suleiman Ibrahim Barde has decamped from the All Progressives Congress, APC, to contest the Chairmanship election in the 2026 FCT Area Council election scheduled for February next year.
Speaking during the declaration in Gwagwalada Abuja, Hon. Ibrahim -Barde attributed alledged injustice, non respect for gentleman agreement and non recognition of party’s loyalties among others as some of the factors responsible for dumping the APC for Labour Party in the forthcoming FCT Area Council’s poll.
He therefore promised to embark on various developmental projects most especially in rural areas if elected as Chairman of the Council in next year’s FCT Area Council Election.
The Chairmanship Aspirant said his aspiration to contest for the office of the Chairman during next year’s Area Council’s poll is due to his determination to further contribute to the progress and growth of the area.
He stated that over the years, he has been contributing to the empowerment and welfare of people of his area most especially youths and women through his NGO and Entrepreneurship Initiative.
“Therefore, if given the opportunity to serve as Chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council in the 2026 FCT Area Council Election, all I need is to consolidate on what I’ve done for my people by hitting the ground running in the provision of basic amenities such water supply, electricity, agriculture, roads infrastructure, education and health facilities, security of lives and property, environmental, market establishment among other projects and Programmes that would further improve the living standard of people of my area” He explained.
In his words “In education, we’ll partner with necessary agencies to ensure quality and affordable education system in Gwagwalada Area Council, while in the health sector, by God’s grace when I emerge as Chairman, I’m going to enroll my people in the National Health Insurance Scheme, NHIS for them to have low cost in healthcare delivery so also is agriculture where I’ll engage my people in dry season’s farming that’s irrigational farming because in Gwagwalada we have a very big market but we’re depending on other people to bring us vegetables and other farm produce”.
“On electricity, I’ll ensure the provision of hydro and solar electricity for people of the area through effective partnership and collaboration with relevant public and private organizations while in the area of environmental, I’ll take it very serious because the issue of environmental has over the years affected our roads, health and everything in our area and as a result of that we’re going to be having monthly environmental sanitation exercise towards ensuring a healthy and environmental friendly society and above all, I’m going to ensure effective security of lives and property of my people through partnership with the formal and informal security agencies in Gwagwalada ” Hon. Suleiman Ibrahim Barde stressed
In a remark, the Chairman, Labour Party, LP, Gwagwalada Chapter, Mr Chibike Moses Obiete welcomed the Chairmanship Aspirant, Hon Suleiman Ibrahim Barde to the Party and promised necessary support to him towards emerging victory in next year’s Chairmanship election in the area.
He described the Chairmanship Aspirant, Hon Suleiman Ibrahim Barde as an educated and experience politician who has what it takes to be the next Chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council come 2026.
The LP Chairman therefore enjoined all members of the Party and electorates in Gwagwalada Area Council to effectively support Hon Suleiman Ibrahim Barde before, during and after the 2026 poll to enable him continue his developmental and people’s oriented programmes in the area.
ther Chieftains of Labour Party, LP, Gwagwalada Chapter who spoke during the declaration also solicited support for the Chairmanship Aspirant, Hon Suleiman Ibrahim Barde to enable him emerge victorious in the forthcoming FCT Area Council election.
Leaders of Youth and Women Groups and some beneficiaries of the Chairmanship Aspirant’s empowerment programmes in the area who equally spoke during the declaration expressed confidence in the ability of Hon Suleiman Ibrahim Barde and pledged their loyalty and support to him to enable him emerge as the Chairman, Gwagwalada Area Council due to his competent and experience on issues of governance.
