Minister Atah hails Tinubu’s decisive response to Benue killings, expresses solidarity with victims

The Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Abdullahi Atah, has lauded President Bola Tinubu’s prompt and decisive action following the recent killings in Yelwata and Daudu communities in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.
Atah described the President’s swift visit to Makurdi, just days after the tragic incident, as a demonstration of proactive leadership and deep empathy for victims.
He welcomed directives issued by the President during a town hall meeting at the Government House Banquet Hall in Makurdi, where Tinubu charged the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, to “go after the criminal murderers” and ensure they are brought to justice.
A statement signed by the minister’s aide, Seyi Olorunsola, on Thursday, said the President’s pointed question—”How come no one has been arrested for committing this heinous crime in Yelewata. Inspector General of Police, where are the arrests?”, underscored his commitment and impatience toward lingering impunity.
Atah further praised the immediate deployment of the nation’s security apparatus—led by the military, police, and intelligence agencies—describing the move as a strong demonstration of the Renewed Hope Agenda’s resolve to secure every part of the country.
“The mobilisation of the full weight of the security architecture,” he said, “is a powerful reflection of the Renewed Hope Agenda’s commitment to ensuring that no part of this country is left behind in our drive for security, development, and equity.”
The Minister also acknowledged the President’s compassion during his visit to survivors at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital and interactions with community leaders, which he said sent a clear message of the federal government’s commitment to justice, healing, and rebuilding.
Atah expressed solidarity with the people of Benue State, urging them to remain steadfast in their confidence in the President and the nation’s security forces.
He assured Nigerians of the federal government’s resolve to tackle the crisis head-on, promising that justice will be served, victims compensated, displaced families rehabilitated, and farmlands secured against further attacks.
Atah called on the people of Benue to embrace the spirit of solidarity and trust in the federal government’s commitment to their safety and well-being.
