Alleged terrorism: FG closes case against Nnamdi Kanu

The Federal Government on Thursday, June 20, officially closed its case against Nnamdi Kanu, the embattled leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who is standing trial on charges bordering on terrorism and treason.
The prosecution, led by Chief Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), made the announcement at the Federal High Court in Abuja after presenting its fifth and final witness, identified only as “EEE” due to security concerns.
The witness took the stand before Justice James Omotosho, offering testimony that was later cross-examined by Kanu’s lead counsel, Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN).
Awomolo stated that the prosecution was satisfied with the evidence presented, including various broadcasts attributed to Kanu. He maintained that the volume and nature of the evidence tendered were sufficient to close the government’s case against the IPOB leader.
“I therefore close the case,” the senior lawyer said.
After the announcement, the lead defence counsel, Chief Kanu Agabi, informed the court that they would be opting for a no-case submission, which would be filed in due course.
