Man sets himself ablaze in Kano

A tragic and deeply unsettling incident occurred in Kano State as a man, identified as Suleiman Muntari, set himself on fire in what witnesses described as a shocking and heartbreaking act of self-harm.

The incident took place along Panshekara Road, sending waves of panic and confusion through the area. According to eyewitness accounts, Muntari appeared to be in a disturbed mental state before he poured petrol on himself and struck a match, igniting a blaze that engulfed his body.

“He kept shouting that he wanted to go to Paradise. At first, people thought it was a joke until he poured petrol all over himself and lit the fire,” said Saminu Isah, an eyewitness.

Some residents suggested that Muntari might have been under the influence of drugs, as he was reportedly staggering and speaking incoherently before the incident.

“He didn’t look normal. There was a strong smell on him, and he was behaving strangely,” said Aisha Salisu, a resident of the area.

People nearby attempted to intervene, but the flames spread too quickly.

Passersby tried to douse the fire with water, while others dragged him into a drainage filled with water in a desperate bid to save his life.

“It was like something out of a horror movie. His skin was peeling off, and some boys tried to pull him into the gutter water, but it was already too late,” narrated Ibrahim Jafar, a commercial tricycle rider who witnessed the incident.

As of the time of this report, the Kano State Police Command was yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
