JUST IN: Benue Assembly demands release of protesters arrested over Yelewata killings

The Benue State House of Assembly has called for the immediate release of 14 individuals arrested by the police during a protest on Sunday.

The protesters had taken to the streets in response to the recent massacre in Yelewata community, where dozens of residents were reportedly killed by suspected herdsmen.

During its plenary session on Tuesday, the Assembly strongly condemned the arrests, stating that the protesters were merely exercising their constitutional right to demand justice and security.

The lawmakers also urged the state and federal governments to prioritize the protection of vulnerable communities in Benue, which have come under frequent attacks in recent years.
