Man arraigned for allegedly stealing sachet water in Ekiti

In a rather unusual theft case, the Ekiti State Police Command has arraigned a 33-year-old man, Fatai Yisa, before the Chief Magistrate Court in Ado-Ekiti for allegedly stealing a large quantity of sachet water, commonly known as “pure water.”
According to the police prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, the accused was one of the sales boys at a water packaging factory and reportedly stole a total of 1,570 bags of pure water between January and June 10, 2025.
The stolen items are said to be valued at ₦549,500.
He said the stolen bags of water belong to one Oluwa Tobi Opeyemi, adding that the defendant committed an offence punishable under Section 302 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State of Nigeria, 2021.
The defendant denied the charge and his counsel, Barrister Opeyemi Esan, urged the court to admit his client to bail, the request Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun granted in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned till July 10, for hearing.
