Nigeria won’t become one-party state under my watch – Tinubu assures

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has firmly ruled out the possibility of Nigeria turning into a one-party state during his tenure, reaffirming his commitment to democratic pluralism and political diversity.
Speaking at a joint session of the National Assembly on Thursday, as part of the 2025 Democracy Day celebrations in Abuja, the President emphasized the importance of maintaining a vibrant and competitive political environment.
He said, “It is better to witness them (opposition parties) in such a disarray. ”
Tinubu also said the APC would be doing what he described as political malpractice, if it stops the influx of opposition members into its fold.
“Nigeria will not become a one-party state. A one-party state is not in the offing. But we will be doing political malpractice if we close the doors for those who want to join APC,” he said.
