FCTA announces closure of major road in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) says it would close the road linking Apo Mechanics Village to Wassa this Friday to accommodate a high-level inauguration ceremony.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by Mr. Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, the road closure will be in effect from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The disruption is to facilitate the commissioning of the newly completed 15-kilometre left-hand service lane on the Outer Southern Expressway, Stage II, by President Bola Tinubu. The event is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m.

“Motorists are urged to use alternative routes between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. tomorrow when the Apo-Wassa Road will be inaccessible.Traffic enforcement personnel will be deployed to guide motorists and minimise inconvenience. The FCTA appeals to affected road users to bear with the government during this temporary closure,” Olayinka stated.

He further noted that local stakeholders in the area have shown support for the event.

“They are expected to resume business on Saturday,” he added, referring to the traders, mechanics, and shop owners in Apo Mechanics Village who have agreed to suspend operations during the inauguration to welcome the President.
