Suspect escapes as police recover AK-47 rifle, motorcycle, ammunition

The Nasarawa State Police Command recovered a cache of weapons and an unregistered motorcycle during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Giza-Kadarko road on Saturday.
Items recovered at the scene included an AK-47 rifle with breach number 0413, two magazines, multiple rounds of 7.62x39mm live ammunition, and a Bajaj motorcycle without registration.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Ramhan Nansel, confirmed the incident in a press release issued on Sunday, describing the seizure as “a significant feat.” He explained that the discovery was the result of credible intelligence about illegal arms transportation.
According to Nansel, officers from the Giza Division in Keana Local Government Area carried out the operation.
He stated, “On June 7, 2025, at about 16:00, the Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State Command, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, received credible intelligence regarding the movement of a suspected criminal transporting arms and ammunition.
“Acting swiftly on this report, the Commissioner ordered a coordinated manhunt to apprehend the suspect.
“In compliance with these directives, police operatives from Giza Division mounted a strategic stop-and-search operation along the Giza-Kadarko Road.
“During the operation, a suspicious individual riding an unregistered Bajaj motorcycle was intercepted.”
Nansel reported that the rider fled into the bush after being signaled to stop, abandoning both the motorcycle and the bag containing the arms.
A thorough search of the motorcycle led officers to the weapons cache.
The police spokesperson said the discovery “strongly suggests a connection to criminal activity,” and confirmed that investigations are ongoing to identify the suspect and determine the source and intended destination of the weapons.
