In celebration of Eid-al-Adha, one of the governors in the northern part of the country, Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State, has provided financial support to 3,200 pilgrims from the state performing the Hajj in Saudi Arabia by donating 1,000 Saudi Riyals (about ₦450,000) to each of them.

The governor announced the gesture on Saturday while addressing the pilgrims in Mina. During his remarks, he congratulated them on the successful completion of the Hajj rites and explained that the donation was aimed at easing their financial needs as they prepare to return to Nigeria.

“The monetary gift was intended to provide financial support as the pilgrims prepare to return to Nigeria,” he said.

Governor Aliyu also praised the pilgrims for representing the state with dignity, highlighting that none had run afoul of Saudi laws during the pilgrimage.

He reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to the wellbeing of Sokoto residents, including those undertaking religious duties abroad. In his address, he extended gratitude to the State Amirul Hajj, Alhaji Ummarun Kwabo, and officials from the Sokoto State Pilgrims Welfare Agency for their coordination efforts.

He concluded by urging the pilgrims to “remember Nigeria in their prayers, especially in tackling the challenges of insecurity and national development.”
