VDM accuses Nigerian pastor of mobilising followers to attack him

Martins Otse, widely known as as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has accused a Nigerian pastor of encouraging believers to launch online attacks targeting him following his outspoken criticism of certain religious leaders.
The dispute originated from VDM’s public condemnation of Pastor David Ibiyeomie, whose prosperity gospel preaching VDM described as both manipulative and lacking biblical foundation.
VDM shared his latest allegations in a widely circulated Instagram video on Friday, where he addressed remarks made by Jeremiah Fufeyin, a well-known Nigerian pastor and founder of Christ Mercyland Deliverance Ministry (CMDM).
Pastor Fufeyin recently called on Christians to stand up for their spiritual leaders against online criticism.

The tension between VDM and Pastor Fufeyin dates back to mid-2024, when VDM openly questioned the legitimacy of Fufeyin’s “miracle” products, particularly soap and water, and challenged claims about their approval by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
Following this, Fufeyin filed a ₦1 billion defamation suit against VDM and secured a court injunction barring him from further public remarks.
In an Instagram video posted Friday, Pastor Fufeyin stressed the importance of protecting pastors from criticism, urging church members to defend their faith and leaders actively online.
“Christians, wake up. Because nowadays, these small children attack men of God on the phone. Let me tell you what is right, you have the same phone. When someone abuses your pastor, you must respond.”
“You cannot insult if you love the father that was preaching for you, if you love the father that was preaching for you, carry your phone today. Carry your phone now.”
