How God warned me my firstborn will die if … — Enoch Adeboye

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has shared a deeply personal revelation, saying that God warned him of a tragic consequence if he ever left the denomination.
Speaking during the June edition of the Holy Ghost Service, themed “Destined for Greatness (Part 2),” held at the Redemption City in Ogun State in the early hours of Saturday, June 7, Adeboye recounted the divine message he received.
The cleric, who addressed the congregation on the significance of spiritual steadfastness and divine direction, referenced an earlier sermon by his son, Pastor Leke Adeboye. He expressed concern over the modern trend of young Christians frequently changing churches.
He recalled being drawn to other prominent ministries during the early days of his faith journey, but said God firmly instructed him to remain in RCCG.
“When I got born again, there were three major ministries that were making waves, and they were very good. There were different temptations to go from one to another,” he said.
“But God said to me, ‘Son, I brought you here. This is where you will stay. The day you leave this denomination, your firstborn will die’,” he added.
Adeboye noted that at the time, the RCCG was still largely unknown, with its headquarters based in a modest structure in Ebute-Metta, Lagos.
Despite holding a university teaching position, he said he was divinely led to submit to a spiritual leader who lacked formal education.
“I was a lecturer at the university. My father in the Lord didn’t go to secondary school, not even primary. But God said this is where you will stay,” he said.
Urging young believers to seek divine direction and remain rooted, he stated, “Discover where God wants you to stay, and stay there.”
Adeboye clarified that his message was not intended to position RCCG as superior to other denominations. “I am not saying we are better than any other denomination,” he noted.
