PDP urges Peter Obi to return to party

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Anambra State chapter has called on former members—including Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi—to rejoin its ranks.
This appeal was made during an expanded State Executive Committee (SEC) meeting held on Thursday in Awka. The gathering focused on evaluating the party’s current state and devising strategies for the future.
In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, the PDP, through its state chairman Mr. Chidi Chidebe, expressed concerns over political alignments that lack shared ideology, describing such moves as potentially unproductive.
“The committee extends an open invitation to all aggrieved and former members of the PDP in Anambra, particularly our revered former governor, Mr Peter Obi to return home and reunite with the now rejuvenated and restructured PDP,” Chidebe said.
“We will gladly welcome our brothers and sisters back to join us in the collective quest for a better Nigeria.”
The PDP chairman also called on voters in Anambra to throw their support behind Mr. Jude Ezenwafor and his running mate, Mr. Francis Okeke, in the upcoming election, while urging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a credible process.
“We call on the good people of Anambra to remain steadfast in their historic support for the PDP and to come out en masse to vote for our candidates,” he said.
Additionally, the party announced the nomination of Chief Clems Ezike to occupy the vacant position of National Ex-Officio from Anambra State. Chidebe urged the Southeast Zonal Executive Committee, led by Chief Ali Odefa, to formally recognize and communicate the nomination to the national leadership.
He concluded by praising the outcome of the party’s National Executive Committee meeting held on May 27 and expressed confidence in the new framework for resolving internal disputes.
