Pastor Tunde Bakare visits Tinubu in Lagos
Bakare, Tinubu

Founder of the Citadel Global Community Church, Pastor Tunde Bakare, paid a courtesy visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at his Lagos residence on Wednesday, June 4.

According to reports, the meeting focused on pressing national issues and the overall state of the country, as both men engaged in dialogue centered on Nigeria’s current challenges.

Pastor Bakare, widely respected for his bold views on governance and national development, has remained vocal about the need for reform. Back in April, he publicly urged President Tinubu to implement swift and strategic measures aimed at addressing Nigeria’s deepening crises.

Speaking during a sermon at his Lagos-based church, Bakare called for a “coordinated programme” to restore public trust and ensure stability across the nation. His comments sparked discussions about the role of faith leaders in shaping political discourse and influencing policy direction.

Pastor Bakare is no stranger to the political landscape. In 2011, he was the vice-presidential running mate to Muhammadu Buhari under the now-defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC). He later declared his interest in the 2023 presidential race, purchasing the ₦100 million nomination and expression of interest forms under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

However, at the party’s primaries, he secured no delegate votes, while President Tinubu emerged as the party’s flagbearer with 1,217 votes.
