Man arrested for allegedly killing 60-year-old neighbour with shovel

Tragedy struck in Egugho, Ezzagu community of Ishielu Local Government Area, Ebonyi State, as the Nigeria Police Force arrested a male suspect for the alleged murder of his 60-year-old neighbour, Rose Awoke.

The horrifying incident reportedly occurred on Monday, with police confirming that the suspect brutally assaulted the victim by hitting her multiple times, leading to her death.

Spokesperson for the Ebonyi State Police Command, SP Joshua Ukandu, disclosed the development in a statement issued in Abakaliki on Tuesday. He confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody as investigations continue.

According to him, on Monday, at about 0600 hours, the command received a report that the suspect who lives in the same compound with the deceased at Egugho Ezzagu in the Ishielu Local Government Area, attacked and murdered her.

He said, “The suspect murdered the deceased by hitting her several times with a shovel and abandoned her in a pool of her blood. The officers of the command were able to apprehend him before he could flee.”

Mr Ukandu disclosed that the command was currently investigating the incident to understand the motive behind the brazen attack.
