Tragedy as hit-and-run driver kills toddler in Enugu

A heartbreaking tragedy struck on Sunday evening as a yet-to-be-identified toddler, believed to be between the ages of two and three, was killed by a hit-and-run trailer driver along Timber and Monarch Road.
The fatal accident occurred around 5 p.m., leaving residents in shock and mourning.
According to eyewitnesses, the toddler died instantly after being struck, with parts of the child’s body reportedly torn apart due to the impact.
Witnesses said the trailer driver, upon realizing the severity of the incident and the child’s slim chance of survival, fled the scene immediately, speeding off to an unknown destination before help could arrive.

As of the time this report was filed, it was unclear if the boy was walking along the road with his father, who was suspected to be a scavenger.
When our correspondent went to the scene of the accident, his father was seen crying loudly but refused to utter a word to anybody. Passersby were also sighted at the accident scene discussing the unfortunate development, but refused to speak out due to fear. Sources said that before people could get close to the scene of the accidents, the yet-to-be-identified driver had already left.
As of the time of filing this report, the lifeless body of the toddler had not yet been removed from the roadside.
