Rivers crisis: How my enemies used Fubara to fight me – Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has claimed that Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara was used as a political weapon against him.
Speaking during a media parley on Monday, Wike accused his political enemies of manipulating Fubara, who he described as a “willing tool” in their fight to undermine his influence.
Wike, who served as Rivers State governor for eight years, played a crucial role in Fubara’s rise to power, backing his candidacy and helping secure his victory at the polls. However, the once-solid alliance between the two has since crumbled into a bitter power struggle.

Shortly after Fubara assumed office, tensions erupted between both men over control of the state’s political structure. What started as behind-the-scenes disagreements quickly spiraled into a public feud, marking one of the most dramatic fallouts in recent Nigerian political history.
The crisis led to the declaration of a state of emergency and Fubara’s suspension for six months.
Addressing his monthly press briefing in Abuja, Wike decried Fubara’s tactics, noting that he was yet to meet other stakeholders in the state.
According to the minister, he hasn’t met the suspended governor after their meeting in Abuja.
He said: “This was somebody who gave you food and everything, then you became a tool for his enemies to fight him.
“We are all human, when people say there should be peace – yes, nobody said there should be no peace – how do you feel when you know what you passed through by sending your son to school, to make him be a human being – all of a sudden, your son game with people with guns to shoot you. Is this something that will just go like that from your mind?
“You made your son, you gave your son good education, provided food, you made sure he didn’t lack, ready to sacrifice everything you had for him, yet in the night he brought armed robbers – your time is up – and somehow God helped you, you didn’t die.
“People brought him to beg you, he is your son – I agree.”
