Lady who checked into hotel with suspected ‘Yahoo Boy’ found dead

A tragic discovery was made on Saturday in the Igbogene area of Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, when the body of an unidentified young woman was found in a local hotel room.

According to community sources, the woman had checked into the hotel earlier in the day with a man believed to be involved in internet fraud, often referred to locally as a ‘Yahoo boy.’ However, shortly after they arrived, the man reportedly left the hotel alone, leaving the woman behind.

The hotel’s manager later found the woman unresponsive and immediately alerted the Igbogene Divisional Police Headquarters.

“The lifeless body of a young girl was found in a hotel at Igbogene on Saturday causing confusion in the area.

“She lodged in the hotel with a suspected Yahoo boy who left immediately after.

“The hotel manager who found the dead body reported the incident to the police at Igbogene,” a source said.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Bayelsa State Police Command, Musa Muhammad, said officers have begun investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.

Muhammad stated, “We received the report yesterday; though no arrest has been made for now, an investigation is ongoing.

“We are making serious enquiries to ensure that the culprits are brought to book. Also, an autopsy would be run on the deceased to ascertain the cause of the death.”

As of press time, police had not released the identity of the deceased, and no arrests had been made.
