In a major political development ahead of the 2027 general elections, Mohammed Abdullahi, who served as Minister of Environment in the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, has formally dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Abdullahi submitted his resignation on June 1, addressing the letter to the APC chairman in his Uke ward, Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

Copies of the letter were also sent to other key party leaders. While the letter did not elaborate on specifics, it attributed the decision to “personal reasons.”

Speaking to journalists in Lafia, Abdullahi’s associate, Mr. Samuel Akala, confirmed the former minister’s exit from the party.

Akala hinted that Abdullahi could soon align with a new political platform, possibly to pursue a bid for the Nasarawa governorship in the 2027 elections.

In his resignation letter, Abdullahi conveyed appreciation for his time with the party, writing, “I wish you and the party good luck.”

Before joining Buhari’s cabinet, Abdullahi played a pivotal role in state politics as Secretary to the State Government during the administration of ex-Governor Tanko Almakura. His departure from the APC is seen as a significant development, given his political stature and the support he commands across the state.
