Enugu native doctor arrested at Seme border opens up on bodies found in his compound

A native doctor from Enugu State, Obi Obieze—also known as Levi Obu Onyeka—has alleged that corpses discovered in a soakaway pit at his residence were planted by individuals plotting against him.

Obieze was apprehended at the Seme border by operatives of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) while allegedly attempting to flee the country.

The suspect, a native of Umuojor village in the Isiagu community, Ezeagu Local Government Area, had earlier been declared wanted by the Nigeria Police Force in connection with the alleged abduction of a 13-year-old girl and a series of suspected ritual killings.

Police say the missing girl was eventually found at a shrine allegedly run by Obieze. The shrine, situated in his hometown, reportedly became a crime scene when officers uncovered two decomposing bodies sealed inside a concrete-lined pit.

Three individuals allegedly involved in the kidnapping were taken into custody by the Enugu State Police Command, while Obieze managed to evade arrest until his capture on Thursday.

He was stopped at the Gbaji checkpoint along the Badagry-Seme Road while allegedly trying to escape Nigeria on a motorcycle.

Upon arrest, Obieze told immigration officers he resided in the Benin Republic and made a living selling fairly used clothes, locally known as Okrika.

During a brief exchange with the authorities, Obieze maintained his innocence and claimed he was being framed.

“I don’t know where I’m heading to right now because they say before you kill somebody, allow the person to talk,” he said.”You are an officer and someone may mark you as a criminal or a thief, whereby you know that you are innocent. Whenever you know that you are innocent, even though you are taken to hell, you will go there. The God of vengeance will still deliver you from anything.”

He attributed the allegations against him to local political rivalries, saying:“An issue on ground concerning me is a political issue. It is something politics, fabrication against me because I will be the next king (though he called it next of kin) and some people in my village don’t want me to be that next king.
“They are planting evil against me front and back so that I can fall. That is the major issue. The PG (President General) of my village went and demolished my house.”

When asked if he identified as a native doctor, Obieze denied the label, stating:“No… All these things are just to weaken me. As I’m talking now, I’m homeless. I don’t have a house.”

Explaining why his home was destroyed, he alleged:“Because they are the ones that planted something that is disturbing me.”

Pressed further on what was planted, Obieze responded:“They planted someone, he is a young guy. There is where I’m building a new house, far away from the house I’m living in. It is always difficult before I go there. I don’t go there anyhow. Because of this kingship issue, they set me up.“There is someone that is working for them and they planted a dead body in my house, in my soakaway pit. And I have already answered this matter.“They caught the guy who planted the dead body. I didn’t know the guy before and that was why I was free.”
