Cement truck crash claims 3 lives, injures 6 on Lagos-Abeokuta expressway

A devastating accident occurred early Wednesday morning along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, resulting in the loss of three lives and leaving six others injured.
The fatal crash happened at approximately 7:45 a.m. near the Sango-Ota tollgate, Ogun State.
According to the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), the tragic incident involved five vehicles and was caused by a speeding cement truck with faulty brakes. The truck, which was reportedly unregistered, was heading towards the tollgate from Sango-Ota when the driver lost control due to brake failure.
TRACE South-West Area Commander, Adekunle Ajibade, confirmed the incident and stated that emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene to rescue victims and clear the wreckage to ease traffic congestion in the area.
He explained that the vehicle reportedly lost control and ploughed into four other vehicles in its path.
However, the six survivors suffered varying degrees of injuries in the crash.
“The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at Ifo General Hospital in Ogun State, where the injured are also receiving treatment,” he said.
He advised motorists to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before setting out and warned against excessive speeding and reckless driving to avoid needless loss of lives.
Ajibade added that the vehicles involved in the accident had been cleared from the expressway to restore normal traffic flow in the area.
