Police rescue 12 children, arrest couple for alleged child trafficking

On May 19, 2025, the Abia State Police Command successfully rescued twelve children and arrested a couple suspected of running an illegal motherless babies’ home along Ikot Ekpene Road, Aba.
Acting on credible intelligence, police operatives raided the unregistered facility around 11:45 a.m., uncovering the operation run by 49-year-old Blessing Emebo and her 42-year-old husband, Sunday Emebo.
The rescued children, aged between two months and fourteen years, include Ojiugo Caleb, Christian and Samuel Okoro, Clinton and Osinachi Nkemakolam, Marvelous, David, Godwin Emmanuel, Ogechi Nkemakolam, Chinaza and Anointing Okoro, and a two-month-old baby named Testimony Emebo. Investigations revealed that many of the children were trafficked from various villages in Arochukwu.
Following their rescue, the children have been handed over to the Abia State Ministry of Women Affairs for proper care and protection. The suspects remain in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Umuahia and will face court proceedings once investigations are complete.
