My political onslaught not targeted at Fubara, he’s my boy – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has referred to the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, as his political son, despite the tensions that have dominated their recent relationship.
Speaking during an interview with BBC Pidgin released on Saturday, Wike dismissed speculations of a personal feud with Fubara, insisting that his contention lies elsewhere.
“That one is not a battle. He (Fubara) is my boy, he is my son, why will I fight with him?” Wike said during the interview.
He clarified that his disagreement is with individuals he accused of influencing the governor and attempting to claim power they did not earn.
“I’m only fighting against people who want to steal what they did not work for,” he said. “When you don’t defeat them, they will think you….. Defeat them to the final stage. Now, they are ashamed because they are being defeated. They are the ones pushing Fubara.”
Wike and Fubara have been embroiled in a political standoff since 2023, a situation that has significantly impacted the political landscape in Rivers State.
Recent reports suggest that Fubara, who was suspended by President Bola Tinubu following the declaration of a state of emergency in the state, may have offered an apology to his former ally.
