2027: Patience Jonathan rules out return to Aso Rock, vows to campaign for Tinubu

Former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, has made it clear she has no intentions of returning to the Aso Rock Villa, instead pledging to actively support First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at an awards event in Abuja where she was honoured as the 2025 Women Icon Leader of the Year by Accolade Dynamics Limited, Jonathan emphasized her belief in rotational leadership as a cornerstone for national cohesion.
Addressing attendees at the event, which included the President’s daughter and Iyaloja-General of Nigeria, Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, Jonathan said, “These are your women, stand with them. Lead us, and we will follow.”
Known for her straightforward manner, the ex-First Lady reiterated her loyalty to President Bola Tinubu and the principle of “one president at a time.” She affirmed her long-standing relationship with Remi Tinubu, dating back to their time as wives of deputy governors and governors, and referenced the Tinubus’ support during her husband’s 2011 presidential campaign.
“I will not go back to the villa,” Jonathan said with finality. “I will campaign with my friend, Remi. I will stand by her.”
She also expressed frustration over the National Assembly’s repeated dismissal of gender equality legislation, advocating for stronger representation of women in governance and pushing for the implementation of the 35% affirmative action policy previously endorsed under past administrations.
The former First Lady also highlighted her philanthropic work through the Aurora Richard Foundation and Women for Change and Development Initiative, which have provided support for thousands of women and children in health and skill development.
The award ceremony, according to Accolade Dynamics CEO Ms. Dofan Chizaram, was designed to honour trailblazers across Nigeria and Africa who have left enduring impacts through leadership and community service.
