Former local government chairman killed in Bauchi home attack

The Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a suspect following the killing of a former Chairman of Jama’are Local Government Area, Isa Muhammad Wabi.

The 66-year-old was reportedly assaulted at his residence in Fadaman Mada, located behind Government Girls Secondary School, Bauchi, in the early hours of Friday.

Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, issued a statement on behalf of Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, confirming the incident.

According to the statement, the police received an emergency call around 4:03 a.m. from a Good Samaritan reporting an attack by a group of youths.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found Wabi critically injured with several stab wounds to his neck. He was rushed to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Preliminary findings suggest the attackers were allegedly acquaintances of the deceased’s son, who allegedly conspired to gain access to the house around 3:00 a.m. to carry out the assault.

In an unexpected development, one of the suspects, identified as Ajebo, was discovered unconscious at the scene, reportedly after being attacked by an unknown individual. He was transported to the hospital but was declared dead.

The police have taken another suspect into custody. “He is cooperating with investigators and has provided useful information,” the statement noted.

CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu also visited the bereaved family to extend condolences and assured them that a thorough investigation is in progress.

“He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring that all those involved in the heinous act are brought to justice.”
