Civil servants earning under N1m annually to be exempted from tax – Senator

Senator Sani Musa, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, has disclosed plans to exempt certain categories of Nigerian civil servants from paying taxes, particularly those whose annual earnings fall below N1 million.
Speaking in Minna, Niger State, shortly after the Workers’ Day celebrations, Senator Musa revealed that the proposed tax relief is part of a set of tax reform bills scheduled to be submitted to the National Assembly next week.
“The Tax Reform Bills are ready for presentation before the National Assembly next week,” Senator Musa stated. “Once passed, any worker earning below N1 million annually will no longer be required to pay tax.”
According to the senator, the reforms aim to acknowledge and appreciate the contributions of Nigerian workers. He noted that both the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) were actively involved and favorably considered in the reform process.
Commenting on the current economic policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, Senator Musa acknowledged that while the policies might pose short-term difficulties, they are expected to yield long-term benefits for the populace.
The senator, who attended the Workers’ Day event alongside Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, urged Nigerians to continue supporting the Tinubu administration to ensure its success.
