Supreme Council For Sharia In Nigeria

The Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria (SCSN) has officially confirmed Sheikh Bashir Umar as its new President, following the death of its former leader, Sheikh AbdulRasheed Hadiyatullah.

In a statement released by the Council’s Secretary General, Malam Nafi’u Ahmed, the passing of Sheikh Hadiyatullah was described as a profound loss to the Muslim Ummah in Nigeria and beyond. The Council prayed for Allah’s mercy on his soul and for him to be granted Al-Jannatul Firdaus.

The appointment of Sheikh Umar, the statement noted, was made in accordance with the council’s constitution and internal procedures. Ahmed expressed strong confidence in Sheikh Umar’s capacity to lead, praising his deep scholarship and unwavering dedication to the promotion of Shari’ah and justice.

While the position of Vice-President remains vacant for now, the council assured that an announcement would be made in due time.

It also urged the Muslim community across Nigeria to offer prayers and support as it continues its mission of promoting Islamic values and legal principles throughout the nation.
