8 killed others injured as bomb explosion rocks Borno

Barely a day after Boko Haram insurgents killed 12 people including members of the Civilian Joint Task Force and firewood scavengers in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, tragedy has struck again.

At least eight people were killed and three others injured when an improvised explosive device (IED), planted by suspected Boko Haram terrorists, detonated in Gamboru Ngala Local Government Area on Monday.

According to reports, the deadly explosion occurred around 11:00 a.m. as several vehicles were travelling from Rann, the headquarters of Kala-Balge, to Gamboru Ngala. The IEDs were reportedly planted near Furunduma, about 11 kilometres from Rann.

Local sources confirmed that the blast instantly killed several passengers and left others with serious injuries, further highlighting the persistent insecurity in the region despite ongoing military efforts.

The tragic incident has once again raised ransom

“The victims include women and children. But some said, over 20 people were killed, with several others injured,” a source said.

Both Gamboru Ngala and Kala Balge share a border with Cameroon, which has witnessed a series of deadly attacks in the past.

All efforts to get confirmation from the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Kenneth Daso, was unsuccessful at press time.
