The Kano State Government has recovered ₦27,824,395.40 wrongly paid to 247 individuals who had either retired or died, following a recent audit of the March 2025 payroll.

The discovery was announced in a statement issued on Saturday by Musa Tanko, the Information Officer for the Secretary to the State Government.

According to Tanko, the irregularities were uncovered during a validation exercise carried out by the Pay Parade Committee. He confirmed that the recovered funds have been returned to the Local Government Treasury.

“The government remains resolute in its commitment to purge the payroll system of irregularities and hold perpetrators accountable,” he said.

Tanko added that the committee would soon begin its full operations, engaging all relevant stakeholders to conduct a thorough review of the payroll.

“Further investigation will be conducted to determine the extent of the apparent fraud and identify those involved,” he stated.“Individuals found to be involved in the fraudulent activity will be held fully accountable in accordance with the law.”
