Ex-IGP joins Nasarawa governorship race

Former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has formally announced his bid for the Nasarawa State governorship ahead of the 2027 general elections, contesting under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Adamu, who led the Nigeria Police Force from 2019 to 2021 during President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, made his intentions known at a meeting with members of the APC State Working Committee in Lafia.
Explaining his decision, Adamu said it was in response to a “clarion call” from the people of Nasarawa, who, according to him, trust in his leadership abilities and experience. He vowed to run an inclusive and people-centered government if given the mandate.
“I am answering the call of my people who believe I can serve and move Nasarawa forward.“My administration, by the grace of God, will be inclusive, transparent, and focused on delivering tangible development across all sectors,” Adamu said.
His entrance into the race adds further momentum to an already crowded field of contenders seeking to succeed Governor Abdullahi Sule, who is currently serving his second term under the APC banner.
