Ata urges young Nigerians to own homes through new FG s housing scheme to partner youths ministry

The Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Abdullahi Ata, has urged Nigerian youths to take full advantage of the Renewed Hope Housing Project, a flagship initiative of President Bola Tinubu’s administration aimed at addressing the nation’s housing deficit and fostering empowerment, particularly among young citizens.

Ata made this call during a courtesy visit from the North West Youth Forum, a coalition of youth organizations representing the North West geopolitical zone.

A  statement signed by aide to the minister, Seyi Olorunsola, said the group met with Ata to commend his ongoing efforts to unify and empower young people across political divides.

Arch. Bala Sani-Umar, speaking on behalf of the Forum, lauded the minister for his consistent dedication to youth development, describing him as a mentor and influential figure in the region.

“We are here to register our admiration for your tireless efforts in galvanizing youths toward unity, responsibility, and purpose. Your inclusive approach and visible support for youth engagement continue to inspire us,” he said.

Sani-Umar also reaffirmed the group’s backing of President Tinubu’s leadership and appealed to fellow youths to support the administration’s broader reform agenda.

“We believe this government means well, and we urge other youths to give the Renewed Hope agenda a chance to transform our lives and nation,” he said.

In his remarks, Ata expressed deep appreciation for the visit, calling it a motivating gesture. He reiterated the government’s commitment to inclusive development, emphasizing the importance of youth participation.

“I want to thank you for this humbling visit. It is a testament to the renewed energy and unity of our young people across the North West and beyond. I want to urge you to not just commend the government but to take action by keying into the opportunities it is creating—especially the Renewed Hope Housing Project,” he said.

Ata explained that the housing scheme, introduced in 2023, is more than a shelter provision program. It is a strategic socio-economic effort to facilitate affordable homeownership, generate jobs, and boost local economies. The project is specifically tailored for low- and middle-income earners, including young professionals, artisans, and those in the informal sector, with flexible mortgage and rent-to-own options.

He also highlighted President Tinubu’s keen interest in youth-focused initiatives, pointing out that ongoing construction is taking place in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. The minister encouraged young Nigerians to visit the project’s portal—www.fmhud.gov.ng—to register and begin their journey to homeownership.

“The platform is open and transparent. Don’t wait. Apply now and tell other young people around you to do the same. Let’s move from complaints and ranting on social media to action. The days of watching from the sidelines are over—our generation must build, own, and lead,” he emphasized.

Ata further revealed plans to collaborate with the Ministry of Youth to increase visibility and participation in the housing initiative. “The synergy between the Ministry of Housing and the Ministry of Youth will be key in ensuring no youth is left out. We are building not just homes—but the future,” he said.

He urged the youths to remain hopeful and engaged. “Instead of using social media solely to criticize, let’s also use it to learn, share, and mobilize. The Renewed Hope agenda is real, and it is working. But it will only work for those who engage with it,” he said.
