Kaduna Electric records 75% revenue loss in Kebbi, vows to improve power supply

Kaduna Electric has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing electricity supply in Kebbi State despite incurring losses of over 75 percent on energy distributed in recent months.
According to the electricity distribution company, between September 2024 and February 2025, it supplied electricity worth over ₦10 billion to Kebbi State, but recovered less than ₦3 billion, resulting in significant Aggregate Technical, Commercial and Collection (ATC&C) losses.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Head of Corporate Communications, Abdulazeez Abdullahi, and obtained by PlatinumPost on Tuesday.
“Kaduna Electric welcomed the formation of a committee to address persistent power outages and concerns about the company’s performance by the Kebbi State Government.
“As a key player in the power sector, Kaduna Electric views this initiative as an opportunity to collaboratively identify systemic challenges and implement lasting solutions for better electricity services in the state,” the statement read.
The company commended the Kebbi State Government for its ongoing partnership in strengthening power infrastructure and supporting network enhancements, particularly in Birnin Kebbi and surrounding areas.
“Kaduna Electric expresses gratitude for the Kebbi State Government’s ongoing partnership in strengthening power infrastructure, network enhancement & maintenance, particularly in Birnin Kebbi and environs; as it aims to optimize these assets for improved grid performance,” the statement added.
However, it emphasized that various systemic and external factors continue to hinder service delivery, including low revenue collection, infrastructure decay, and national grid challenges.
“Kaduna Electric wishes to highlight the systemic hurdles impacting service delivery, including the historical low revenue collection despite Kebbi State previously receiving 20-hour daily supply before now. Between September 2024 and February 2025, for instance, energy worth over ₦10billion was supplied, yet less than ₦3billion was recovered, with technical and commercial (ATC&C) losses of over 75%. External challenges such as grid instability, a fire incident at a Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) station, and ageing infrastructure have further strained supply,” the company stated.
To mitigate the issues, the company said it is implementing measures such as customer engagement, securing industrial clients, revenue protection, and network rehabilitation.
“To address these issues, the company had outlined measures already underway, including securing commercial/industrial clients, customer outreach, revenue protection drives, and network rehabilitation. Kaduna Electric commends the state’s support in this regard for effective infrastructure optimization, noting recent progress in stabilizing supply and adhering to feeder banding commitments.”
The firm also announced plans to launch a statewide engagement campaign aimed at fostering community collaboration and rebuilding trust.
“In the coming weeks, Kaduna Electric will launch a statewide engagement campaign in Kebbi, partnering with community leaders, traditional institutions, and consumer groups to foster dialogue, align expectations, and promote shared responsibility in service improvement. The company reaffirms its dedication to collaborating with the new committee, the state government, and residents to resolve existing gaps and rebuild trust in the power sector.”
The statement concluded with a renewed pledge to improve power supply across the state.
“Kaduna Electric appreciates the Kebbi State Government for its steadfast support and pledged to redouble efforts toward delivering consistent, reliable electricity to all customers.”
