Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, former special adviser on political matters to President Bola Tinubu in the office of Vice-President Kashim Shettima, has said that the northern region may soon take a firm political stance if its concerns continue to be overlooked.

In a video currently circulating online, Baba-Ahmed urged northerners to remain united and vigilant against internal threats that may destabilize the region.

“The north will stand to defend herself, I swear to God,” he declared.“North should be very careful, and avoid traitor politicians and also avoid what might divide them.”

He reflected on the violence that plagued the region during former President Muhammadu Buhari’s campaign era, citing the bombing of both churches and mosques as part of efforts to sow discord.

Emphasizing the need for cohesion among various northern communities—Muslims, Christians, Fulani, Baju, and Mangu—Baba-Ahmed criticized self-serving political figures.“You understand now, no politician will come and say, ‘where are the northerners, follow me’. Who are you?” he said.

Baba-Ahmed argued that the region has become more politically aware after enduring eight years under Buhari and grappling with the current administration. He said the north now demands leadership that recognizes its unique challenges.

“By God’s grace, in the next six months, the north will come out and tell their next direction,” he stated.“It’s left for the remaining Nigerians either they follow us, or we go alone. We know nobody will become president without the North.”

Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, he warned that any attempt to compromise the process could have grave implications.“Conducting a bad election in 2027 may lead to the end of Nigeria, I swear to God,” he warned.

He further revealed that northern elders and influential stakeholders are actively discussing the region’s political future.“There will be a time we will come out and say it’s okay, and it’s soon. This injustice is over. We know who we are,” he said.
