Easter : COSROPIN felicitates older persons, tasks FG on healthy living for elderly

The President of Coalition of Societies for the Rights and Privileges of Older Persons In Nigeria, COSROPIN, Senator (Dr) Eze Ajoku, has felicitated with older persons on the occasion of this year’s Easter celebration.
In his Easter message in Abuja, Senator Eze Ajoku who is also the International Coordinator of Graceful Ageing Fellowship, GRAF, admonished Older Persons to always emulate the virtues of Jesus Christ which includes sacrifice, humility, peaceful coexistence, love among others..and content spirit
He said Jesus Christ came to the world to salvage mankind from their sins through His crucifixion and death on the cross of Calvary and resurrected after three days.
The President of COSROPIN therefore admonished older persons not to allow the sacrifice of Jesus Christ to be in vain in their lives by receiving him into their lived to be born again and to confess Him as their Lord and Saviour in order to gain eternal life.
Senator Eze Ajoku also stressed the need for older persons to be committed to the service of God and humanity as well as develop keen interest in contributing their wealth of experience , knowledge and wisdom to the greater good of all Nigerians.
He used the opportunity to appeal to the Federal Government to give attention to the welfare, wellbeing and health care of older persons in the country as not much is done at the moment. Older Persons.
“One thing that some people fear is getting old apparently because of the challenges associated with it, but the fact remains that ageing is inevitable hence the need for the Federal Government to scale up measures on how older persons can live well and healthy ” He noted.
Senator Eze Ajoku stated that records show that out of estimated 150 thousand people who die daily across the globe, two third died from age related causes, life style choices and socioeconomic conditions and which makes it very important to give adequate attention to the health of the elderly in the country.
While expressing concern over non payment of some pensions and gratuities to Retirees most especially by State Governments , the President of COSROPIN urged Government at all levels to give priority to regular payment of pension to Senior Citizens to make them live longer and happier.
He said COSROPIN would continue to embark on programmes and advocacy towards improving the living standard of older persons in the country.
He therefore advised older persons to always engage in exercise, eat healthy, and take life easy by not allowing the social, political and economic situation in the country to weigh them down.
Senator Eze Ajoku equally cautioned the young and those im their middle ages from engaging in activities that could adversely affect their lives when they become old such as smoking, excessive alcohol intake, eating lots of salty and sugary foods. How they live now will surely affect their old age
