JUST IN: Court delivers judgement on Obasa’s impeachment as Lagos Assembly speaker

The Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja has declared the removal of Mudashiru Obasa as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly unlawful, unconstitutional, null and void.
Delivering the verdict on Wednesday, the court ruled that all legislative proceedings and resolutions carried out on January 13, 2025 the day Obasa was ousted stand invalid.
Obasa, who had taken legal action against the Assembly and Mojisola Meranda, who replaced him as Speaker, successfully argued that due process was not followed in his removal.
The judgment not only restores Obasa to his position as Speaker but also effectively nullifies all decisions made by the House during the disputed session, dealing a significant blow to the attempted leadership change.
