Over 200 bandits flee Zamfara forests, relocate to another state – Report

A significant number of armed bandits have reportedly fled forest areas in Zamfara State and relocated to parts of Sokoto State, following intensified military operations in Zamfara’s southern axis.
According to a report by security analyst Zagazola Makama, the renewed offensive, particularly around Danjibga and adjoining forest zones, has forced dozens of armed groups to abandon their hideouts and move toward forested regions bordering Isa and Sabon Birni Local Government Areas of Sokoto State.
The report indicates that the bandits are regrouping along forest corridors stretching from Gusami and Rugu in Zamfara to the Rukudawa forest near Zurmi. From there, they are reportedly moving through Dutsi toward Fakai and further into the Isa axis.
“Sources estimate that as of late Wednesday night into Thursday morning, the number of armed elements in the Isa–Sabon Birni axis exceeded 200,” the report stated.
The movement is believed to be connected to the network of notorious bandit leader Bello Turji, who is said to be aware of and possibly coordinating the relocation for strategic reasons.
“Local residents are being urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious movement as security forces intensify surveillance and response efforts,” the report said.
