Killing of northern travellers Kano deputy gov Emir others storm Uromi

A high-powered delegation from Kano State, led by Deputy Governor Aminu Gwarzo and including the Emir of Rano, Ambassador Mohammad Isa Umar, on Thursday visited Edo State over the recent killings of northern travellers in Uromi.

The victims, said to be hunters from the North, were reportedly mistaken for kidnappers and lynched by a mob—an incident that has sparked outrage and heightened ethnic tensions nationwide.

During the visit, the delegation met with Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo in Benin City, where it presented a report compiled by a panel set up by the Kano State government to investigate the incident.

The deputy governor expressed deep concern over the tragic killings and praised Governor Okpebholo for his administration’s commitment to ensuring justice for the victims.

The delegation later travelled to Uromi, the community where the incident occurred, to meet with northern residents and offer condolences.

Speaking earlier at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport before departure, Gwarzo said, “Our mandate is clear — to investigate, to consult, and to recommend sustainable solutions.

“This is not just a fact-finding mission, but a peace-building initiative aimed at restoring confidence and preventing further violence.”

The Uromi violence has drawn nationwide attention, with widespread calls for justice and urgent measures to prevent further escalation.
