Another trailer crash in Abuja claims over 3 lives

Just 48 hours after a deadly trailer accident claimed over 10 lives, another fatal crash involving a trailer occurred on Monday afternoon at Tipper Garage Junction along the Dutse-Bwari road in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), killing at least three people.
The trailer, which was loaded with sacks of onions and pepper, reportedly suffered brake failure near Usuman Dam while heading from Bwari town, according to eyewitness Ismaila Hussein, a local clothing vendor.
“I was on the phone with a customer at around 11:55 AM when I saw the trailer honking and descending with uncontrollable speed. That was when we realized another trailer had lost its brakes.
“Fortunately, there were not many vehicles on the road at that time only a Prado Jeep, which the trailer hit from the back. The impact caused the Prado to collide with a Keke Napep and a bystander who unfortunately died on the spot; the body was removed from under the vehicle,” he said.
Another eyewitness, Mrs Glory Emeka, a PoP operator, appealed to the minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, to find a solution to the incessant accidents at the junction because they are getting out of hand.
“We are no longer safe again as we cross this junction. When we get to this junction when we are going to work, our only prayer is for God to take us safely past this junction.
“We live in fear because of trailer drivers coming from Bwari town to Dutse.
The minister should come to our rescue because we don’t know who is the next victim of the trailer,” she said.
Meanwhile, officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigeria Police have taken the corpses to the mortuary, while the injured victims were taken to the hospital for medical attention.
