Sallah Day violence Police probe Emir Sanusi over alleged defiance to ban on durbar

The Kano State Police Command has launched an investigation into the violence that broke out during the procession of the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, following the Eid-el-Fitr prayers on Sunday, March 30, 2025.

In response to the unrest, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, inaugurated an eight-member Special Investigation Panel (SIP) on Wednesday to probe the incident.

The panel will examine the root causes of the violence and assess whether the procession violated the police directive banning Durbar and horse-riding processions during the Sallah celebrations.

In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, emphasized the panel’s mandate to thoroughly investigate the circumstances leading to the violence.

Platinumpost recalls that the Police banned all durbar activities last Friday due to security concerns in the state.

However, on Eid Day, an incident reportedly claimed the life of a vigilante member, Surajo Rabiu, from Sabo Titi Jaba Quarters, while another individual, Aminu Suleman from Kofar Mata Quarters, sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Murtala Mohammad Hospital in Kano.

Similarly, two suspects, identified as 20-year-old Usman Sagiru of Sharifai Quarters and 35-year-old Nasir Idris of Kofar Mazugal Quarters, were arrested in connection with the incident.

Also, the Police Command summoned Shamakin Kano, Alhaji Wada Isyaku, for interrogation over alleged defiance of the Durbar ban.

The Special Investigation Panel has been directed to expedite its findings to ensure that justice is served. “Anyone found culpable will be made to face the full wrath of the law,” the release stated.

The Police Command reiterated its ban on all forms of thuggery and warned that anyone found engaging in such activities will be dealt with decisively.

It noted that “All forms of thuggery (Daba) activities will not be tolerated, and anyone engaging in any act or conduct that may likely cause a breach of peace or breakdown of law and public order will be made to face the law.’
